Late Night COURT Report 3/10/25

I took my first vacation trip of the year this past weekend to see my 95 year old grandmother, who’s visiting the States from Lima, Peru. It was a goal of mine to make it home to spend time with her this year, knowing every moment is precious. And now, with my broken Spanish in mind,— por favor, vea a continuación a la C.O.U.R.T de esta semana:

Complaint / Claim:

Complaint: Joann Fabrics is going out of business. AND they aren’t having any worthwhile “going-out-of-business” sales.

Claim: I grew up going to Joann’s summer art classes as a child. Entering those automatic doors was my reward for good behavior. And it was the only way my mom could keep me busy during non-school days, with a craft and a prayer. She learned to sew, crochet, cake decorate, even apply wallpaper in those in-store classes that Joann offered. Pre-YouTube, it was one of the only accessibly ways to be taught art and life skills. As a woman who grew up not learning any of these practices, she saw such value in the education. I’m thankful she brought me along.

The walls of my local Joann’s allowed me to explore my creativity and budding artistic talent. I still have a princess crown nine year old me created in a class, a halo made of stuffed newspapers and wrapped in baby blue and lilac pieces of fabric.

When I told my mom about the sad fate of our favorite craft store, of the disappearance of the foundation of her learning and my own expression, she said the same thing about the sale prices. “I know, it’s only 30% off.” Meaning, she had already been to a store to make her farewell buys. If you are a crafter that wants yarn, go soon. She said those are the only shelves that are starting to look empty.

Obviously, I’m Obsessed With

• Whatever is going on lately with Lil Nas X. I feel a comeback coming and he deserves it. He’s saying things that most creatives just don’t have the courage say out loud.

• Doechii at PFW. More specifically, the barefoot look at Chloe. I followed her entire styling team after the week’s displays. Interestingly enough, she’s styled by a white Australian man (Sam Woolf). I am a fan.

• While we’re on the topic of fashion stylists, The Hollywood Reporter’s Power Stylist Issue was fun. I love following stylists on Instagram because that’s where the real BTS content lives. I want to know the process. I want to understand the journey.

• Watching

  ’s long fashion chats on TikTok. My new favorite series by far.

• Unless you’ve lived in the south, don’t talk to me about Parker Poser’s White Lotus accent. In my humble opinion, it’s perfect! If you’re a creator—jump on the trending audio on TT today. “TSUNAMIIII, BUDDHISMMMM..NOOOOO”

• A friend of the newsletter ran into John Mayer this past week in an office setting. He apparently loves office cosplay, wearing his office badge and the act of swiping in. She said he looked hot. My office siren.

• I took an entire semester-long course in college about Joni Mitchell, so seeing Amanda Seyfried performing “California” on Fallon made my heart soar. The class taught me what obsession and fandom could look like in the world of academics. And though most didn’t understand my professor, I did. David Yaffe was the #1 expert in the world regarding all things Joni, a title he deserved but would never claim himself. I wondered if he had made comment about the clip or what he might have to say about about Seyfried (or any other actress) playing her in a biopic. So I looked him up after seeing the clip, only to find out that he sadly passed in 2024. I didn’t know who else to tell, but just felt like I should acknowledge him here. I’d like to think that he enjoyed the birds eye view of Joni at every concert appearance she made over last year.

• All the men in Comedian (generous) Alec Flynn’s comment section talking about how they want to read more fiction to embrace whimsy! Yes boys! Put down Atomic Habits and get a sense of wonder!

Without giving too many details— I’ll never think any man is good enough for any of my friends.

Unfollowing someone on Letterboxd is so lame. I’m literally watching Tangled.

Repeat Offenses

I cry every time I leave my grandma. This time, she made the sign of the cross on my forehead and kissed both of my cheeks as we said goodbye.

Temporary Insanity

Finding out that Amelia Dimz was inspired by Seth Meyers to use researchers to prepare for her hosting assignment at the Oscars. What was she doing before??

I follow Dimz’s production company/agency on Instagram, Dimz Inc., and was shocked that producers hadn’t been utilizing extra help before this point. Learning that she previously researched and wrote everything with just the help of just her sister makes what she’s been able to accomplish just that much more profound.

**Bonus Insanity: I saw lightning from a new vantage point yesterday, which was…mid-flight. I shut the window after taking this because I was scared.
